- Design and test standard and the leakage class.
- Certificates, and the availability of repair kits and spares.
What is a globe valve, and when should you choose another type?
A stem moves a disc toward or away from a seat set across the flow path, so the opening can be set finely. The flow turns through the valve, which makes the pressure drop higher than in a gate or ball valve but gives good control and a tight shut-off. Globe valves are made in bronze, cast iron, carbon steel and stainless steel, and are common on steam, feed-water and process lines.
Globe Valve or gate valve? A globe valve controls flow well and seals tightly but has higher flow resistance. A gate valve gives a clear bore with low resistance and suits full open or full closed use, but is not meant for throttling.
The body is marked with an arrow showing the correct direction. Installing it backwards can affect sealing, wear and how easily the valve opens, so follow the marking.
Generally yes. A globe valve is designed to control flow with stable operation, whereas a ball valve’s seats can wear if it is held partly open.
