General guidance from SourceLoka for investment casting; it is not this company’s specification.
- Alloy and the standard it must meet, with the required mechanical properties.
- Part size and weight, and the number of parts you need.
- Tolerance and surface finish, and which features will be machined.
- Tooling: who designs and owns the wax tooling, and the lead time to samples.
- Heat treatment and finishing required.
- Inspection and tests: chemical analysis, dimensional checks and non-destructive testing.
What is an investment casting, and when should you choose another type?
A wax copy of the part is made, assembled on a tree and dipped repeatedly in ceramic slurry to build a hard shell. The wax is melted out, the shell is fired, and molten metal is poured in. After cooling, the shell is broken away and the parts are cut from the tree, finished and tested. The process suits complex shapes and alloys that are difficult to machine, such as stainless steels and special alloys.
Investment Casting or sand casting? Investment casting gives a smoother surface, finer detail and tighter tolerances, so less machining is needed, but tooling and each part cost more and parts are generally smaller. Sand casting handles large and heavy parts at lower cost with rougher finish and wider tolerances.
Mostly small and medium parts, from a few grams to several kilograms, though some foundries cast larger parts. Ask the foundry for the range it makes routinely.
When the shape is complex, the alloy is hard to machine, or the volume is high enough to share the tooling cost, which saves machining time. For very simple shapes in small quantities, machining may be cheaper.

Before you order
- We have not independently verified this company. A complete profile is not a certification. How we list companies
- Company website reviewed November 2026: 8 pages, used for materials, processes, certifications, industries served, products, identity numbers, plant and documents, the summary.
- For Investment & Precision Castings, confirm: Alloy grades offered, tolerance class (such as CT5 to CT7), maximum weight, in-house tooling and machining, and NDT and material-test reports.
- The listed address may be a registered office rather than the factory. Ask which site would make your part.
