General guidance from SourceLoka for gate valve; it is not this company’s specification.
- Nominal size, pressure class and end connection (flanged, threaded or welded).
- Body, gate and seat materials for the fluid and temperature.
- Stem type: rising or non-rising, and whether a handwheel, gearbox or actuator is needed.
- The design and test standard the valve is made to, and the leakage requirement.
- Operating temperature, since pressure ratings fall as temperature rises.
- Material, pressure test and inspection certificates, and availability of spares.
What is a gate valve, and when should you choose another type?
A stem raises and lowers a gate inside the body. When the gate is lifted clear of the bore the liquid flows straight through with little pressure loss, and when it is lowered onto the seats the flow is stopped. Gate valves are made in cast iron, carbon steel, stainless steel and alloys, with rising-stem and non-rising-stem designs, and are common in water, oil and gas, and process pipelines for isolation.
Gate Valve or ball valve or globe valve? A gate valve is good for full open or full closed isolation in large lines, but it opens and closes slowly and should not be used to throttle, because a partly open gate vibrates and wears the seats. A ball valve shuts off quickly with a quarter turn, and a globe valve is the right choice for regulating flow.
Not normally. Throttling with a partly open gate causes vibration and wears the seats, so gate valves are used fully open or fully closed. For regulating flow, use a globe or control valve.
On a rising stem the stem moves up as the valve opens, so you can see the position at a glance but you need headroom. On a non-rising stem the stem turns without moving up, which saves space and suits buried or tight installations.

- Company website reviewed November 2026: 8 pages, used for address, products, identity numbers, plant and documents, the summary.
- For Industrial Valves, confirm: Design and test standard (API 6D, API 598, IS 778), pressure class, body and trim materials, leakage rate, and third-party inspection certificates.
- The listed address may be a registered office rather than the factory. Ask which site would make your part.
