What is a seamless steel pipe, and when should you choose another type?
A heated round billet is pierced to form a hollow shell, which is then rolled and sized to the required diameter and wall thickness, or drawn through dies for smaller sizes and tighter tolerances. Because there is no weld, the pipe has uniform strength around its circumference. Seamless pipe is used for boilers, pressure systems, oil and gas lines, hydraulic systems and mechanical purposes.
Seamless Steel Pipe or welded (ERW) pipe? Seamless pipe has no weld seam, so it is preferred for the highest pressures and temperatures and for critical service, but it costs more and is limited in size. Welded pipe is cheaper and available in larger sizes and suits many general uses.
Why is seamless pipe stronger?
It has no weld seam, which is a possible weak point, so its strength is uniform around the circumference. This is why it is preferred for very high pressure and temperature.
What is the difference between hot finished and cold drawn tube?
