What is a belt conveyor, and when should you choose another type?

An endless belt runs over a drive pulley and a tail pulley, supported on the way by idler rollers. Material is loaded at one end and discharged at the other. Belts are made of rubber, fabric, plastic or steel mesh, and can be flat, troughed or fitted with cleats for steeper inclines. Belt conveyors are used in mining, cement, power, food, packaging and warehouses.

Belt Conveyor or screw conveyor? A belt conveyor moves large quantities over long distances with low power and little damage to the material. A screw conveyor is enclosed, suits short runs, dust-prone or sticky materials and can feed accurately, but it uses more power and wears faster.

It depends on the capacity, the belt speed and the size and density of the material. Give the supplier your material details and required tonnage per hour, and ask them to calculate the width.

What is the maximum incline of a belt conveyor?

It depends on the material and the belt surface. Smooth belts handle gentle inclines, while cleated or ribbed belts can go steeper. Ask the supplier for the limit for your material.
