C-Type Power Press manufacturers in India

A C-type (gap-frame) power press is an open-fronted mechanical press used for blanking, piercing, bending and shallow forming of sheet metal, where easy access to the die matters more than maximum stiffness.

What is a c-type power press?

The frame is shaped like the letter C, so the operator can load and unload from three sides. A motor turns a flywheel, a clutch connects the flywheel to a crankshaft, and the slide moves up and down with a fixed stroke each time the clutch engages. Capacity ranges from small bench-top machines to presses of several tens of tons, and the open frame makes them common in job shops, tool rooms and small-part production.

C-Type Power Press or H-frame or straight-side press?

A C-type frame flexes slightly under load, which limits accuracy and the largest force it can use safely, but it is cheaper and easier to feed. An H-frame or straight-side press is stiffer and suits larger parts, progressive dies and tighter tolerances at higher cost.

What to specify when you ask for a quote

  • Capacity in tons, with the rated force and the stroke position where it applies.
  • Stroke length (fixed or adjustable) and strokes per minute for your die and feeding method.
  • Shut height, slide adjustment and bolster size to match your tooling.
  • Clutch and brake type, and the safety devices supplied: guards or light curtains and two-hand control.
  • Throat depth (the distance from the slide to the frame) for the size of part you will feed.
  • Foundation, motor and power requirements, with the spares and service available near you.

Frequently asked questions

What is a C-type power press used for?

It is used for blanking, piercing, bending and shallow forming of sheet metal parts in small and medium batches, where the open front makes loading and unloading easy.

What tonnage should I choose?

Work out the force from the material, thickness and cut or form length, then choose a press with a comfortable margin above it. Ask the maker for the rated force at the point in the stroke where the work happens.

Is a C-type press suitable for progressive dies?

Light progressive work is possible, but a stiffer H-frame or straight-side press holds accuracy better over long runs and is usually preferred for heavier progressive tooling.
