What are aluminium products?

Aluminium products are made from a light, corrosion-resistant metal that is shaped by extrusion, casting, rolling and fabrication. Extruded sections, die castings, sheet and foil, and fabricated assemblies are used in buildings, vehicles, electrical equipment and packaging, wherever weight and corrosion resistance matter.

How to choose

  1. Choose the alloy and the temper (the hardness condition) for the job. Strength, formability, weldability and corrosion resistance differ widely between alloys.
  2. Choose the process: extrusion for long sections with a constant profile, die casting for high-volume shaped parts, rolling for sheet and foil, fabrication for assemblies.
  3. For extrusions, check the die cost, the tolerance on the section, the surface finish and the sizes of presses the maker has.
  4. Decide on the surface treatment: anodising, powder coating or paint, and ask for the thickness and the tests that show quality.
  5. Ask for the material certificate and the standard to which the alloy is supplied, and for batch traceability.
  6. Check the maker’s facilities for cutting, machining and fabrication, so that finished parts are possible from one source.
  7. Compare lead times and minimum quantities, especially for custom dies and finishes.

Frequently asked questions

What does the temper of an aluminium alloy mean?

The temper describes the heat treatment or working the alloy has had, which sets its hardness and strength. Two parts in the same alloy can have very different properties in different tempers.

Why is anodising used?

Anodising builds a hard, durable oxide layer on the surface that improves corrosion and wear resistance and can be coloured. The layer thickness decides how well it performs.

What does an extrusion die cost cover, and who owns it?

The die is the tool that forms the profile. Its cost is usually charged once, and ownership and storage should be agreed in advance, along with its expected life.

Can aluminium be welded and machined easily?

Most alloys can be machined easily and many can be welded, but weldability depends on the alloy. Tell the supplier how you plan to join and finish the parts.

How is the surface of aluminium protected outdoors?

Anodising or powder coating is the usual protection. The thickness and quality of the layer decide how well it resists weather, so ask for coating thickness records and any corrosion test results for the finish.

Can I contact the manufacturers listed here directly?

Yes. Each listing shows the contact details the company has published, with no lead form or middleman. Confirm alloys, tolerances and finishes with the company before ordering.
