EOT Crane (Overhead Crane) manufacturers in India

An EOT (electric overhead travelling) crane is a bridge crane that runs on rails high up in a workshop or yard, with a hoist that moves across it, so loads can be lifted and placed anywhere in the bay.

What is an eot crane (overhead crane)?

A bridge girder spans the bay and travels on runway rails mounted along the walls or on gantry legs, and a hoist trolley moves across the bridge. Together these three motions cover the whole floor area. Cranes are rated by safe working load, span and duty class, and are controlled from a pendant, a radio remote or a cabin. They are common in factories, foundries, steel yards and power stations.

EOT Crane (Overhead Crane) or jib crane or hoist alone?

A jib crane or a simple hoist serves a limited area or a single point. An EOT crane covers the whole bay and handles heavier loads, but needs a runway, a supporting structure and more investment.

What to specify when you ask for a quote

  • Safe working load, with allowance for lifting beams and attachments.
  • Span between the runway rails and the lift height.
  • Duty class, which reflects how often and how heavily the crane is used.
  • Speeds for hoisting, cross travel and long travel, and the type of speed control.
  • Control: pendant, radio remote or cabin, and the safety devices such as limit switches and overload protection.
  • Runway and structure requirements, installation, load testing and the certificate supplied.

Frequently asked questions

What is the duty class of a crane?

A classification of how often and how heavily the crane will work, from light use to continuous heavy duty. Choosing too low a class shortens its life, so describe your use honestly.

What safety checks does an overhead crane need?

A load test after installation, regular inspection of the hoist, rope or chain, brakes and limit switches, and use only by trained operators. Follow the rules that apply in your location.

Do I need a new building structure for a crane?

The runway and its supporting structure must be designed for the crane loads. Ask the supplier for the loads and have a structural engineer check the building.

What is the difference between a single-girder and a double-girder crane?

A single-girder crane is lighter and cheaper and suits moderate loads and spans. A double-girder crane carries heavier loads and larger spans and gives more headroom options.
